Jesus and his Father

There is fantastic power which becomes ours as we come into a true awareness and understanding of the relationship Jesus had (and has) with his Father, God; because it is virtually the exact same relationship we are to have.   This is the reason the devil has gone to such great lengths to darken and obfuscate this simple, powerful truth.  And with the darkening of this truth, the whole Bible has become that much more difficult to understand and trust.

God, as the Father, did not exist in the Old Testament. Malachi 2:10 indicates that Israel came of one father, but he was referring to Abraham. In that verse, God is called the creator of all….not the father of all.

God has always been spirit. Holy Spirit. When Jesus was born, God became the Father, because He had fathered Jesus. The Father is exactly the same being known in the Old Testament as God, except that He was now literally a Father of a son, and so from the time of Jesus’ earthly ministry, God has been something “other” than what we see in the Old Testament.  Since the beginning of creation, this has always been God’s “end game,” to be a Father of sons and a Father to and for those sons.  The desire of the Father is to reproduce Himself!

Jesus responded, If I honor myself, my honor is nothing; it is my Father who honors me; of whom you say that He is your God.  John 8:54

You see, Jesus did not indicate that God was their Father, because He wasn’t.  He was only Jesus’ Father, at that time.

“God the Son” has never and never will exist. The Son of God came into existence on the occasion of his birth. Until his birth, while developing in Mary’s womb, he was referred to as “that holy thing.”

And the angel responded and said unto her, The Holy Spirit shall come upon you, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow you; therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of you shall be called the son of God (after it’s born)Luke 1:35

Never refer to Jesus as God the Son. Only as the Son of God. Because God fathered him.

But to us there is one God, the Father, from out of (ek) whom are all things and we unto (eis – into or unto) Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by means of (dia) whom are all things and we by means of (dia) him.
I Corinthians 1:6

Jesus is, was and always will be the son of God. He will never, ever be God the Son. Ever. (My son is named Joel. Joel is the son of Steve. He is not and will never be Steve the son.  “Son of God” and “God the son” mean two absolutely different things).  Jesus was fathered by God, who was and continues to be his father. Because Jesus is God’s son, he inherited all that his Father has to give. He speaks for his Father, he is imbued with the power and authority of his Father. But Jesus is not himself God, though he is Godly; for everything that he is and has, was given to him by God, his Father.

Jesus said unto them,  If God were your Father, you would love me; for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but He sent meJohn 8:42

For in him (Jesus) dwells all the fullness of the Godhead (theotes – deity, divinity, God-ness, the nature of the fact and truth of God His very self) bodily.  Colossians 2:9

Whoever decided that “Godhead” meant trinity had something to prove. Because it means nothing of the sort.  In Jesus dwells all the fullness of divinity.  This lines up with II Corinthians 5:19:

To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself …
II Corinthians 5:19a

Jesus was the Word become flesh. But he didn’t physically exist until that time that he became flesh. Before then, he was foreknown and foreordained in the foreknowledge of his Father. Inasmuch as the word of God is the communication of the will and nature of God, by means of His spirit working in the lives of holy men, through the words and writings of these men, and inasmuch as God’s perfect communication of Himself came by means of the son whom He fathered, Jesus is the word of God in the flesh.

Also, insomuch as God’s entire intention from the time of man’s fall was to rescue and redeem man by means of His anointed one; the man, Jesus, was and became the fulfillment of all that God foretold regarding His intended one. And so Jesus was God’s Word (the word he communicated to man throughout time regarding the savior to come) in the flesh.

Jesus was conceived by the impregnating of the egg in Mary’s womb by God, via His holy Spirit. This means God did not come into a physical existence in order to have sex with Mary and impregnate her. Mary’s egg simply came to life, life supplied by the spirit of God.  (In a normal pregnancy, the woman’s egg gets its life from a sperm cell supplied by the father).  Thus, Jesus was literally God’s son.

Inasmuch as Jesus came into existence, perfect before God, he is called the second Adam. Inasmuch as he came into perfect existence by birth, he is called the only begotten son of God.  All the other sons (children) which God has had since Jesus left the earth are considered adopted, because they had an existence prior to becoming God’s children. However, the process by which God adopts his children is to seal the spirit of Christ within each one, making each a “new creation.”  This is known as spiritual birth, or being “born again”  (literally “born from above”).

Everything. E V E R Y T H I N G which Jesus had, including life itself, he owed to God, his Father. Everything Jesus did, beginning upon his baptism by John, he did by means of the holy spirit of God which came upon him, filled him, led him, empowered him, supplied him (without measure), and anointed him (made him the Christ). This includes raising him from the dead and making him lord of heaven and earth. (all things spiritual and all things physical).

To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself … For He (God) has made him (Christ) to be sin for us, who knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in him (Christ)
II Corinthians 5:19a, 21

The job  Jesus had to do was simple (not easy): Do the will of Him Who sent him. This was spelled out by Jesus on the day he was anointed as the Christ by the spirit of his Father.

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor (in spirit); He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.  Luke 4:18, 19

He was sent as a rabbi, a prophet, a teacher, a minister only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel, and there is no record of his knowingly, directly and conscientiously ministering to anyone not of those tribes.  (If you look closely at all the records of the Roman centurion with the Jewish servant, you’ll see he and Jesus only communicated with one another via other Jews.  Also, with the above in mind, the record of his interaction with the Canaanite woman, found in Matthew 15, makes a lot more sense).

But he answered and said (to the Canaanite woman), I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.  Matthew 15:24

Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers;  Romans 15:8

One of Jesus’ main tasks during his life on this earth was to defeat Satan.  Jesus’ defeat of Satan was (at least) a two part process.

Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; Having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it (in the exposure)Colossians 2:14, 15

Thus are his job, as well as his direct audience, described in the Word of God. To fulfill (fill up) the Mosaic (Jewish) law, rendering it no longer necessary; and to defeat the enemy of God (the devil) and his works, the chief of which is death.

Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us; …  Galatians 3:13

For the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the (Mosaic) law of sin and death.  Romans 8:2

For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.  I John 3:8b

Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself took part of the same (he partook of the flesh of mankind, but not the blood of mankind, which contained sin.  Jesus’ blood was sinless, the life contained in his blood having come from his Father); that through death he might destroy him who had the power of death; that is, the devil; and deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.  Hebrews 2:14, 15

The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.  I Corinthians 15:26

The result of what Jesus accomplished on earth goes way beyond the actual tasks he completed.

And that the Gentiles might glorify God for His mercy, as it is written, For this cause I will confess to You among the Gentiles, and sing unto Your name. And again He says, Rejoice, you Gentiles, with His people. And again, Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles; and laud him, all you people.  Romans 15:9-11

What the God and Father of Jesus Christ was able to do because of what Jesus himself accomplished while on this earth goes way beyond what Jesus ever himself did. In fact, all along, God carried in His heart the secret of what He’d be able to do because of the work of His son … a secret that He in no way revealed until after Jesus physically departed this earth.

Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect (spiritually mature); yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nothing. But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden, which God ordained before the world unto our glory; Which none of the princes of this world knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory;  I Corinthians 2:6-8

This mystery of God was the purpose of all the ages, and was kept secret until it could come about. This secret of the mystery was God’s true desire of all time. This mystery of Christ includes a number of realities. The term in Christ refers to these realities, in practice. In Christ …

1) There would no longer be a difference between Jew & Gentile, but rather a new man.
2) This new man is the dwelling place of God, called the body of Christ.
3) Jesus the Christ is the chief member (head) of the body.
4) The life of God (Christ) inhabits every single member of the body.
5) All members of the body, including Jesus, are to share equally in all things of God.

Because Jesus was born and then lived perfectly by his Father’s will, God has been able to become Father to many many more.

For whom He did foreknow, He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.  Romans 8:29

Where is Jesus now? He is a spiritual being, the first of a new race of beings. For until Jesus, no one was ever able to exist alive outside his/her body.

Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.  Colossians 1:15

Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither does corruption inherit incorruption. In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump; for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
I Corinthians 15:50, 52-54

It is at this return of Jesus Christ for his saints that the dead in Christ are made alive, and not before. Until this return, the dead are “asleep” in Christ.  From the moment of this return, or gathering together, known by some as the rapture, and ever onward, all those born of the spirit of Christ will live and reign in life as conquerors with the one who died on their behalf and reconciled them to God, his Father; was raised from the dead by his Father; was seated at the Father’s right hand (a spiritual position of power and authority); and whose life, power and and authority are to be shared equally with us, for all eternity.

About stevehartlaub@gmail.com

I'm a 70 year old spiritual adventurer in life, but I don't really get along with organized religion. I find it too passive, too worldly, too conforming, too powerless ... though I know many wonderful believers involved in it. I have been a seeker of Jesus Christ since 1974 in Ketchikan, Alaska. Very early into my spiritual journey, I came to the realization that I wouldn't be able to last long in this new Godly relationship without becoming able to understand the Bible. God supplied that need, and shortly thereafter I became interested in Biblical research ... Greek, word studies, HOW the Bible is designed to be understood, its customs, etc. I married Sharon in 1985 in Vancouver, Canada. I have 5 children - 3 girls, 2 boys....ages 27-33. All were homeschooled. 3 are happily married. I have six grandchildren. I have taught and studied the Word of God in informal gatherings in England, Scotland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Canada, Alaska, Nevada and all over the United States. In 2006 I became aware of God calling me into the revelation of the glorified Christ within, and I have been involved in making that revelation known since then. I recently moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas, after living in Fitchburg, Wisconsin (suburb of Madison) since 1990.. If you're ever in the area, please look me up. I am a retired house painter, and God is providing for my wife and I abundantly! I am meek to the instruction of God...which often occurs while another person is speaking! So don't be afraid to comment on any of these studies. Because my heart is open to my master teacher, Jesus Christ!
